Otilia Gabor is a founding Principal of SGP. Otilia’s practice focuses on drafting utility patent applications, foreign and domestic patent prosecution, strategic patent counseling, reissue and re-examinations, patent validity and infringement opinions, and patent due diligence.

Otilia is a multi-lingual patent attorney with profound knowledge and experience with a variety of this field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Her strong interest in science and technology coupled with her excellent analytical skills provide a solid foundation for high tech clients to trust their technologically complex patent applications in her care. Having worked as a patent examiner at the USPTO, as well as a patent attorney in private practice, Otilia brings her vast expertise on both sides of the prosecution process to bear for her clients.

Before engaging in private practice, Otilia worked for seven years at the USPTO as a patent examiner reviewing patent applications in the field of invisible radiation detection, in particular, infrared imaging, medical imaging, and UV detection. She also spent time as an extern at the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI), the precursor to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

As a patent attorney, Otilia has represented companies at all stages of patent prosecution. Unlike many of her counterparts in the patent field, Otilia has unique expertise in many other facets of practice at the USPTO, including interferences and re-examinations, and Office of Enrollment and Discipline (OED) proceedings.

Otilia’s prosecution experience spans a vast range of technologies including semiconductor devices and manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, and optical systems and devices, image processing, medical and surgical devices, cancer treatment systems, manufacturing systems and processes, product packaging, nanotechnology, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, sensor design and sensor systems, and software applications.

Animal Welfare
Together with her mom, Otilia is responsible for housing and caring for dozens of cats over the years. But the center of her world remains Avi Baby, Téa and Jaguar.
